![]() I went with a maple neck despite disliking the feel. Short scale, low output pickups and a dark sounding fretboard? Flub city on the regular models for most people. It uses the transformer to feed the power tube grids with opposite polarity signals. Quoting Jeff Gehring: 'The Musicmaster Bass is an odd duck in that it features an interstage transformer with a centertapped secondary in lieu of a phase inverter. The rosewood fretboard also doesn't help much. The circuit is a bit unusual for a Fender. I keep thinking about adding some series switching to mine but I just never get around to it. Amp: The amp is also in perfect working condition & features dual inputs with master volume & tone controls. That might actually help this instrument for those that feel like two single coils wired in parallel are too weak for this instrument. I don't own this exact model but, while a humbucker is usually warmer I also feel they are tighter, more compressed. A lower scale will have a bit more low end but it won't be as defined and will feel and sound loose.Ĭouple that with the pups on these basses, well, the usual ones, and you get a low output sound that's described by some as flubby and by others as deep, depending on whether they hate it or love it.
